Monitors

The most popular monitor setup for a desktop computer is a pair of 22" flat panel monitors (1680 X 1050 native resolution, also known as WSXGA+) with DVI (digital) inputs. These have dramatically come down in price and typically cost less than $250 each. If you want the ultimate setup, get a pair of 24" flat panel monitors (1920 X 1200 native resolution, also known as WUXGA). Call Paul at 770-382-9656 if you have any questions about monitors.

For reference purposes, here's a list of common display resolutions and their graphic abbreviations. The two most common that we use are in bold face.

Note that the Trader/Gamer Xtreme computer comes with a pair of 24" wide screen flat panels (1920 X 1200 native resolution each), but computers #1, #2, #3, & #4 come without monitors.

If you want to add an external monitor to the laptop above, buy a 22" flat panel that has 1680 X 1050 (WSXGA+) or higher native resolution and use a DVI cable.

Misc Notes

We strongly recommend Windows XP, either Home or Pro. Windows Vista is not recommended.

Get a 32 bit computer. Do not get a 64 bit computer. All the above computers are 32 bit.

I've never seen an acceptable laptop computer sold at a retail store. If you just have to have a laptop computer, either order the one above, or call me and I'll help you get one that will work. The number one problem with retail store laptop computers is low monitor resolution. The second problem with retail store laptop computers is that the external monitor jack is analog, not DVI. You want the external monitor jack to be a DVI jack.
